Emily’s Smiles through Difficult Trials

Updates about the Emily Hollis Medulloblastoma Cancer Journey

Home Again

Filed under: — sho at 11:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Emily got home late Tuesday afternoon, still sleepy, but HOME!  Test results will come in about a week.  Apparently Emily dreamed about her old pink hermit crab “Hello Kitty” during her tests because upon waking that’s all she talked about for hours.  So, Eddie had to go on a hermit crab mission upon arriving back home!  Unless things change, they have to be back at Duke after Thanksgiving.  Monday & Tuesday they do bloodwork, hospital admission, etc.  Then chemotherapy should start on Wednesday, 11/29.  Until then they have things to do at home in preparation for the months ahead of them.  I’ll update again soon when there is more to tell.  Please keep praying that God will continue to be their guiding light during this difficult time.

Testing over for today

Just heard that Emily has completed this round of testing and is resting comfortably back at the apt.  The MRI results from Friday were good and the tests today (bone marrow, spinal, etc.) results will not be heard for about a week.  I believe the fever is gone now too.   Good news!!!!  We look forward to Emily being back home for the week of Thanksgiving and feeling much better!

ER – Fever spiked

Filed under: — sho at 10:59 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2006
Emily had her 1-1/2 hour long full body MRI on Friday and did well during the process.  She was still running a fever and they did more cultures to see if they could find out why.  Last night her fever spiked and they had to spend the night in the ER at Duke.  She returned to the apt. this morning and has been sleeping and resting this afternoon.  They hope to hear from the cultures Sunday or Monday, they do think it is some kind of bacterial infection.  A Neurosurgeon did take a fluid sample from her shunt last night and said there is a possibility that her body is trying to reject the shunt.  She has been given antibiotics and fever reducer meds.  Emily is scheduled for her Bone Marrow Test, Spinal Tap and Cat Scan on Tuesday, so she needs to get better quick!  Please keep her in your prayers.
