Emily’s Smiles through Difficult Trials

Updates about the Emily Hollis Medulloblastoma Cancer Journey

Long Day

Today was long for Emily.  Alot of waiting,  then tests,  school,  then news her hemoglobin was 7,  and platelets under 10,  so more  platelets late this afternoon, and blood transfusion tomorrow,  and  Dr.”G”,  wants to see her  too. I think this makes her third blood transfusion and third  bag of platelets,  since her first round of chemo.  I asked the nurses if this is normal,  and she said that depends on the type of chemo and the patient.  I will  get more  info from  Dr.G  tomorrow.   We are scheduled to see him  Thursday,  but he wanted to see us tomorrow also.    I guess I need to go to sleep,  I am so tired,  but as soon as I do,  Emily is up,  She doesn’t ever know if it’s “dark outside”  or morning.

Good Day / Daily Routine

Filed under: — sho at 11:37 pm on Friday, December 15, 2006

Emily had a good day.  She has played the most since she has been out of the hospital.  We even took a walk outside, picked up acorns and she rode her bigwheel one time! Then she was tired, and rested on the sofa.

At night she receives a bag of TPN through one line for 12 hours and I give her Lipids in the other line for 12 hours this helps with nutrition etc.  Then in the morning when thats finished  she gets GCSF to boost her white blood cells.  She did have platelets again in clinic on Monday.  She will probably have to have this until her next chemo treatment.

There are postive reactions from the Drs.  but this is going to be a long term process.  Emily still has the worst to come on her little body,  as each round will be a collective  strain on her.   On the positive side her MRI of the spine was negative for drop metastases within the spinal canal,  that doesn’t mean malignant cells are not there,  that’s why high intensive chemo is being done to kill all cells good and bad,  because this type of anaplastic medulloblastoma  spreads very rapid and cells can be anywhere in the central nervous system.  You have to take aggressive  treatment due to the type of subgroup  of medulloblastoma  which is called Anaplastic.  This was another reason for the high dose of radiation given for postsurgical residual tumor in the brain stem.

I know she is going to be just fine with all the loving, praying, supportive friends and family, and most importantly GOD!!!  I know what prayer and the Lord can do!!!

Miss everyone!  Love, Dawn
