A little better Thursday

Filed under: — sho at 11:55 am on Thursday, January 25, 2007

Emily felt a little better today.  She’s been a “Daddy’s Girl” today letting Eddie take her for her cat scan of the temporary drain which showed it was working properly.  Also her lines are not clotted.  She really enjoyed opening all her cards received today and she even got some strawberries delivered to her room.  Dr. said she could have one as long as it was “peeled”.  Hopefully tomorrow she’ll be up to actually eating one!  Dr. feels good about treating the menengitis and staph infection and as soon as it is all cleared, they will resume chemo treatments.

Prayers are working!

What a mighty prayer vigil has been held tonight in our churches and homes for Emily!  God is so Good!  Just talked with Aunt Linda and Eddie had called home with someone wanting to talk to her and the little voice said, “Hey Nana!”.  Emily is feeling better this evening and wanted to talk to her Nana and is worrying about her Valentines! God heard our prayers tonight and He answered our pleas!!!  The oxygen has been removed and the menengitis is not the contagious kind.  They will be treating it aggressively and feel confident they can take care of it. What a relief that is for tonight!  Please continue praying for her recovery.  Upon returning home I have the below note from Eddie & Dawn:

Hey Stephanie,

We know people are asking questions about the menengitis.  Dr. said that when staph is in the central nervous system, it is menengitis due to location.  Emily does not  have a viral menengitis.  She had a visit from the hospital dog and she enjoyed her laying on the bed with her.  It made her smile!!  Also Emily received some valentine window decorations, and we decorated her glass window on the door .  She had fun peeling  the stickers off.  The kids at Father’s Heart Fellowship Sunday School Class,  sent cards and  a Valentine package,  this made her finally sit up some and work her hands.  Lots of juicy fruit gum has arrived!   She doesn’t have a problem working those jaws!  She is awake now just relaxing.

Menengitis Stapth

Filed under: — sho at 3:10 pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2007
Hey Stephanie,
As I was reading my notes from last night, it was late and I was very tired,   I misspelled Stapth,  I guess I was thinking  and typing to fast.  Sorry!    Emily  had another long night.  Vomiting during the night,  and changing pull-ups regularly.  She had a chest Xray done in room at 5:00am,   no word yet.   She has been on oxygen today to help her body not work so hard.  Spoke with Dr. and she has a menengitis stapth in VP shunt area,  still waiting on cultures for lines, they know its growing something, but we are waiting for what type.  Dr. G is having a infection control team to come in, and evaluate and plan treatment for Emily.  She remains on alot of meds, and pain control,  she is now resting.  I don’t think Emily and I will ever get these alarms out of our minds.  She just spoke out she is dreaming, ” I need to take a bath”.    Both Emily’s lines are clotting, one is completly clotted and will have to use TPN in her lines.   We are also waiting to her from the CNS fluid taken while she was in surgery.  I will keep you informed.  The doggy is coming to see Emily tonight around 7:00pm.            Love, Dawn
