Emily got home Friday evening and has been a busy bee ever since! She was tired Friday night and has such an appetite that she wants to eat everything in sight! Today she was able to go to the south end of Topsail where she loves to play in the water. Eddie was surprised at how busy the island still is. Must be because its the last big weekend before school starts!

Dawn’s brother Randy and family came in today from SC to visit Emily and help celebrate her birthday. They had a great day and enjoyed dining out tonight at the Pasta Grill. Back at home Emily has to get her rest because she has a big day on Sunday with the Birthday Party. The big 6!!!!!! Emily is excited!!!

Stephanie

Radiation tomorrow

“With God you can face tomorrow without fear.” — Linda Knight

The Radiation Dr. decided it would be best to go ahead and begin radiation tomorrow, Thursday. They are scheduled for 1:30 and it shouldn’t take but just a few minutes; however, Emily will not be put to sleep and must lay completely still. This is very uncomfortable for her, so please pray that the minutes will pass very quickly for her. She will repeat this process again on Friday. Her legs and lower back continue to hurt terribly and the sooner they start radiation, then hopefully the sooner she will have some relief.

Eddie told me this evening that earlier today Emily was craving chocolate chip cookies and he had to go buy her some. She ate half the bag and didn’t want to share with Mommy & Daddy! Her appetite is pretty good these days and for that we are grateful. Emily will be excited tomorrow evening when Nana & Grandaddy come and bring Trey  to see her. She’ll have something to look forward to all afternoon.

Speaking of excitement, she is excited about her birthday party. YEAH its girls only the first hour, then the boys get to come. Divide and conquer I suppose, funny how kids plan things! They will have a great time I’m sure! Gives Emily something fun to look forward to and make the time pass quickly until this weekend when she can come home for her party.

Emily is getting excited about her 6th birthday coming up on 8/23!!! This year she plans to have a “Hawaiian Luau” theme party with her close friends and family. I asked this evening what she wanted this year and she always likes Barbie stuff, Scooby Doo, and any basic “girly” stuff, and OH YEAH I forgot, she loves fishing stuff! Suppose they make a pink fishing rod & reel? Mark 8/23 on your calendars and make sure she gets those birthday cards on time!!! You may email me for the mailing address: shotopsail@aol.com

Looks like Emily will have a radiation treatment on Friday this week. Then they plan to come home for the weekend and return late Sunday evening for more radiation to begin on Monday. Not sure yet how many radiation treatments there will be. Emily is in alot of pain and if the radiation can shrink the tumors around the lower back area, they hope this will alleviate some of the pain. As always, she continues to take her meds and work through it. What a fighter our Emily is!!! We should all be as strong as she is, what an example she is setting for us to follow. Still no word on NY, so for now, she will remain at Duke with Dr. G.

That’s all for now. I knew everyone would want to hear from her today. Will update when I know more.

Love, Stephanie
