Working Prayers!

Filed under: — sho at 3:23 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2007

Do you ever wonder if prayer really works? Do you ever wish you could see prayer in action? Well, just look at our little Emily!!!! She is definitely an example of the many “WORKING PRAYERS” of our ever faithful prayer chain. THANK YOU to all that pray diligently throughout each day for her.

Eddie & Dawn just called me on their way home from Duke to share a bit of good news. As many of you know they did have to return to Duke yesterday and Emily does indeed have a UTI and they felt the urgency to have the MRI done now, rather than waiting until January. Well, Dr. G spoke with them this morning regarding the above and in his words “I don’t know how to explain it…” You see, while some of the tumors have continued to grow, others have actually decreased in size. This was much better news than had been anticipated. Any decrease in tumor size is reason to be thankful!!!

Also, they have received affirmative word on Emily’s Children’s Miracle Network trip to Disney World. They will be heading to Disney January 13. That gives Emily, & Trey, something to really look forward to for the next 2 weeks.

Until Disney, Emily received a warm and cuddly Christmas present from Santa that will keep her free time occupied. She was a very excited little girl to receive “OREO”, a spiffy little black & white Shitzu puppy. Oreo is a tiny little ball of fur that is currently being potty trained! Emily just loves “Oreo”. Trey & Dawn also love this furry little puppy but Eddie, well, I think he prefers his big, outdoor labs! Right now Oreo is so small I told Emily he cold put her in his shirt pocket to carry around!

Check out the front page of the 12/26 edition of the Topsail Voice!!!! Emily’s story is one of the top 25 stories for 2007. Her picture made the front cover again!!!!!

Dawn & Eddie said to say THANK YOU again to all the Emily prayer warriors out there. It is very obvious that these prayers are working and they are most grateful to all who pray for Emily and their family, but most of all to God for what he is doing through Emily. Through Emily many lives have been touched in so many different ways!

Love,
Stephanie

Merry Christmas!

Filed under: — sho at 2:45 pm on Monday, December 24, 2007

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Are you as excited as Emily is? She is eagerly awaiting to see what Santa brings her tonight. Betcha her & Trey will go to bed early tonight so they can get up early Christmas morning to see all their Christmas surprises.

Pray that Emily feels better today and tomorrow for Christmas. Yesterday, Monday, she had an appointment at Duke for blood products. Dawn & Eddie & Emily headed to Duke but by the time she got there, she was in alot of pain in her lower back & tummy area. They thought she might have a bladder infection, since she has had some unusual bladder signs, but ran some tests and ruled this out. She did have to be catherized and since she was in pain they gave her a heavy dose of morphine to give her some comfort. It appears that the pressure of the tumors may be causing the pain and the bladder problems are most likely from the advanced stage of the cancer. Dr. G wanted to admit her to the hospital but her parents felt it in her best interest to be HOME for Christmas this year. They will return to Duke on Wednesday for further observation and test results.

Emily has an MRI scheduled for January 7. They plan to keep that appointment unless Dr. G finds reason to do it earlier. Pray for comfort from pain for Emily, particularly in this next 48 hour timeframe, so that she may enjoy Christmas at home with her family. Pray for safe travel for Dawn & Eddie as they take Emily back to Duke on Wednesday. Pray for their strength as they continue to uplift Emily as she continues this mighty battle.

Emily, Trey, Dawn & Eddie wish EVERYONE a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Thank you to everyone for your cards & gifts this holiday season. Remember to pause and reflect on the fact that Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

Love to all,
Stephanie

Emily’s November “happenings”

Filed under: — sho at 1:01 am on Monday, December 3, 2007

I am finally on the computer! I think it has been exactly 1 month since the last update. Sorry for taking so long, now that we are back at home there is alot to catch up on. We are glad to be back together with Trey and having our whole family together.

This is what has been happing this past month:
First part of the month we moved completely out of the apartment in Durham. Emily is so happy to be Homie Home! She started her oral chemo along with many other meds her first week back home. Some days she was taking 11 pills a day :???: which included her nausea meds and appetite med. We have been to Wilmington for blood draws during the week, early in the mornings, then they call or fax results to Duke then they call me with results and if needed we travel to Duke for the day. Emily has been back to Duke for transfusions and check-ups.

Over the Thanksgiving holidays we visited our family in Kenly, N.C. and had a great time . Trey went hunting with uncle Jack and cousin Richard and took his first fox!!! :!:  :!: Emily worked on her scrapbook and relaxed on the sofa watching her movies.

From Kenly we went to Duke for labs and platelets, and Dr. appt. Then that afternoon we drove to Rock Hill, SC to see family. It has been 2 years since we have been to their home and the kids had a great time! Emily enjoyed relaxing in Uncle Randy’s chair  playing againist Trey on the game cube. It was perfect weather and Emily enjoyed riding in her chair through the paths in the woods. Uncle Randy had bridges built through the woods and Aunt Dawn pushed her all around. Emily loved being outdoors and she had a bag of colorful leaves to make her next project. Katelin and Miranda set a desk up for Emily to make her crafts on and Emily had alot of fun making necklaces with Katelin, and watching movies with Miranda. Emily made leaf books and turkeys, and Trey rode bikes on the paths through the woods. We had a cookout one night and Trey and Miranda built a fire to keep warm. Aunt Dawn cooked a great meal for Thanksgiving and Emily ate more than she had eaten in 3 weeks. Between Aunt Wanda and Aunt Dawn’s houses we all gained a few pounds that week.

Emily is on her break from her chemo and her counts continue to drop and are very low at this time. She is given shots for three days to boost her white count. Tomorrow we go to Wilmington for blood draws and wait to hear from Duke what she may need next. Emily mainly relaxes on the sofa and does a few crafts or colors, then she will rest. Her hemoglobin was 8.1 last visit and she becomes tired very easily. Sometimes she will ride on her John Deere outside but doesn’t feel like walking much. She helped in decorating the Christmas tree and is excited about Christmas. She will start her next chemo on 12/7 and follow the same schedule. Her next MRI will be on January 7th.

Emily is so brave with all the pokies and her many bandaids. Her hair has fallen out again. I know this is bothering her more this time, she was so glad to have her hair back. She liked her dark hair, and almost could wear a little barette. She would brush it all the time. I told her it may come back blonde like she use to be. I asked her if she would like a Hannah Montana wig, but she said she wants red hair this time. :!:

I also wanted everyone to know we are still not up on our wireless and I have not been able to read & respond to emails since we moved from the Apartment (just in case someone has sent one that needed a response). I still am receiving calls and people I see out telling me how much they are praying for Emily and she is on their prayer lists at their churches. We are so blessed to have so many by our side.

Love, Dawn
